Due to a formal request from a UK company, this program no longer carries its original name. Actually this version (1.2a) does not even have a name. <grin> Version 1.3 will be renamed - just trying to come up with a suitable one.
Version 1.2a is a program which will display 8 clocks in a small window, each with a user-selectable time zone. You may customize the program to show different cities, and to take daylight savings time into account.
REQUIREMENTS
Version 1.2a requires System 7 and a monitor with at least 640 pixels across. This means that it will not work on Apple’s 12” RGB monitor. (You will not see all the clocks). I originally designed this program with my PowerBook in mind to keep track of different time zones while I was traveling, but soon found it useful on my desktop machine as well.
HOW TO USE VERSION 1.2a
Using version 1.2a is quite simple. To start the program, double click on the icon. When the program first starts, you will see a window directly under the menu bar. This window is divided into two basic parts. The top half contains 8 clocks in the form HH:MM:SS. Below each of these clocks is a popup menu which contains 27 items. Initially, each item is a city in a different time zone. By selecting a city, you will change the time displayed in the clock above the popup menu from which the city was chosen. Clicking in the top half of the window, where the time is displayed, will allow you to drag the window around your screen. A "+" in front of the time indicates the next day, while a "-" indicates the previous day.
When you first get this program, it is configured to be on United States West Coast Daylight Time. Most of you will probably want to change this so that it is correct for your area. To do this, choose “Time Zones” from the Edit menu. This will bring up a large dialog box.
The main part of the dialog box is divided into 3 columns. Each column contains “City Name”, “Hours from GMT”, “Minutes from GMT” & a Checkbox which, when checked, will “turn on” daylight savings calculations for that city. This means that a few times a year, you will have to go into this dialog box and make corrections for daylight savings time.
The hours and minutes are in separate boxes. You must take this into consideration when entering places that differ from GMT by unusual amounts such as 3:30. This is not much of a concern for places that are “+GMT” but when entering “-GMT” values, you must make sure the minutes box also contains a minus sign unless it is zero. The only places I am aware of where this is a concern are in extreme Eastern Canada and some places in the South Pacific. Much of Southern Asia is on half hour time zones but since it is “+GMT” you need not worry about it.
In the lower right hand corner of this dialog box, is “This Location”. Set this to the GMT difference for your city, the check box next to it will enable daylight savings time calculation. This will allow the program to figure out where you are and what time zone you Mac’s clock is based on.
Choosing Preferences form the Edit menu will allow you to switch the display between HH:MM:SS and HH:MM.
